Project Details

GetTakaful is a decentralized insurance platform built on blockchain technology, designed to bring transparency, inclusivity, and ethical finance into Canada’s insurance landscape. Rooted in Takaful principles — a cooperative model of shared protection — the platform enables members to contribute to a pooled fund that covers claims while generating halal investment returns. By blending Islamic finance ethics with cutting-edge blockchain, AI, and smart contracts, GetTakaful introduces a transparent, community-driven alternative to traditional insurance models

02

Project Problems
Mainstream insurance systems often conflict with the ethical and religious principles of many Muslims, leaving Canada’s 1.8 million Muslim residents without suitable coverage options. Traditional policies prioritize corporate profit over community benefit, lack transparency in fund allocation, and operate on interest-based mechanisms that are prohibited in Sharia law. The absence of takaful-compliant insurance options in Canada presents a clear gap — both ethical and financial — that GetTakaful seeks to fill.

03

Project Challenges
Developing GetTakaful required merging religious compliance with modern FinTech capabilities. The system had to be fully decentralized, transparent, and regulatory-compliant under Canadian blockchain and financial regulations. Technically, the challenge was to automate complex insurance processes — like fund pooling, claims validation, and profit-sharing — through smart contracts while maintaining ease of use for non-technical members. On top of that, building community trust in a new blockchain-based insurance model demanded clear UX design and robust data security.

Project Solutions
GetTakaful provides an intelligent, Sharia-compliant insurance ecosystem that redefines how communities manage risk. Using blockchain and smart contracts, members collectively contribute to a shared fund, ensuring full transparency and traceability of transactions. AI-driven automation optimizes claims processing, investment management, and risk assessment, reducing costs and manual errors. Members also have a say in governance — voting on investment strategies and coverage decisions through a decentralized model. Surplus funds are either redistributed among members or used to reduce future contributions, ensuring ethical, community-based growth. With its pay-as-you-go model, GetTakaful makes insurance equitable, efficient, and aligned with both faith and fairness.A structured approach to solving problems, combining research, ideation, prototyping, and testing to create user-centered solutions.

01. Discover

We began by analyzing gaps in Canada’s insurance landscape and studying the global rise of takaful-based financial products. Research revealed significant demand within the Muslim community for Sharia-compliant, tech-driven alternatives to conventional insurance. This discovery phase helped define GetTakaful’s mission — to combine Islamic values with the reliability and security of blockchain innovation.

02. Design

The design phase prioritized simplicity, trust, and transparency. Our team crafted an intuitive interface that allows users to register, contribute, and track their fund performance in real time. The UI reflects the platform’s cooperative values through balanced layouts, soft visual tones, and clear financial indicators. Every design decision — from dashboard flow to contract confirmation screens — was focused on building user confidence and demystifying blockchain technology.

03. Develop

We developed GetTakaful’s MVP using a blockchain-backed architecture that supports AI-driven optimization and smart contract automation. The system integrates modules for claims management, governance voting, and investment tracking. Each process was tested for compliance, performance, and accuracy. Cloud infrastructure ensured scalability, while API integrations enabled future expansion into additional financial services and marketplaces.

04. Deliver

The completed MVP delivers Canada’s first blockchain-based takaful platform — a transparent, community-driven insurance alternative ready to scale nationally. GetTakaful empowers users to manage risk collectively, benefit from ethical investments, and experience insurance built on fairness, faith, and technology. The platform sets a new precedent for inclusive FinTech innovation, proving that trust and transparency can coexist with digital efficiency.
